Do's and Don'ts for the best session ever!

Boudoir Prep Guide

Welcome!

I am so excited to be your boudoir photographer!

The Experience

Before the Session

This is your moment to feel confident, pampered, and fully yourself. Many clients choose to have their hair, makeup, and nails done as a way to relax and step into the energy of the session, but it’s entirely up to you.

Gather your chosen outfits, accessories, and any touch-up essentials (lip balm, a brush, water, etc.). Be sure to eat something nourishing, drink plenty of water, and take a moment to stretch. You’re about to do something powerful.

On Session Day

I’m here to support you every step of the way. If you’re feeling unsure about outfits or just want a little extra guidance, wardrobe consultations are available via video call upon request. You’re also welcome to reach out anytime with questions! Open communication is part of the experience.

After Your Session

Your fully edited gallery will be ready within three weeks. You’ll receive a private link where you can view, select, and download your images. If you’ve chosen to include print products or an album, I’ll be in touch to help you design something beautiful and completely custom.

What to Expect

When you arrive, we’ll take a few minutes to settle in, chat, and get comfortable. We’ll go over the outfits you brought, talk through how the session will flow, and queue up some music you love. Whether it’s something soft and relaxing or bold and energizing, your playlist helps set the tone.

Once we begin, I’ll guide you through every pose step by step. I’ll demonstrate movements, offer verbal direction, and help adjust things so you feel comfortable and confident. Boudoir can be a bit physical, so I always suggest stretching beforehand. I do the same before every session. We’ll take breaks as needed, and the experience will be relaxed and collaborative.

Feeling nervous or awkward at first is completely normal. Most clients do. But that fades quickly. As the session unfolds, you'll start to feel more at ease, more in tune with your body, and more confident in front of the camera. Before long, it starts to feel fun and empowering.

PREP TIPS

  • Start hydrating — your skin will thank you.
  • Exfoliate and moisturize to keep your skin soft and glowing.
  • Avoid sunburns or heavy tanning. I can soften tan lines in editing, but it’s best to prevent them if possible.

1 WEEK BEFORE

  • If you plan to wax, now’s the time to do it so your skin has time to calm.
  • Finalize your outfits and try everything on to make sure you feel great in each piece.
  • Refresh your hair color if needed.

3-4 DAYS BEFORE

  • Keep hydrating and avoid salty foods or alcohol to reduce bloating.
  • Shave or touch up body hair if you choose to.
  • Get a good night’s rest so you feel refreshed and confident.
  • Pack everything you’re bringing to your session, including outfits, accessories, and touch-up items.

1 DAY BEFORE

  • Continue to hydrate and moisturize.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing to avoid skin marks from tight straps or waistbands.
  • Eat a healthy, light meal. Avoid anything that might make you feel bloated or sluggish.
  • Arrive feeling relaxed, pampered, and ready to shine — this is your moment!

THE DAY OF

WHAT TO WEAR

There are so many ways to feel confident and sexy in a boudoir session, and it doesn’t have to mean traditional lingerie. Your favorite turtleneck and cozy socks? Absolutely. (Trust me, it works).

Classic lingerie is always a beautiful choice, but don’t be afraid to think beyond that. Bralette and panty sets, a simple white t-shirt or tank (especially for a wet set), or an oversized sweater or button-down can all photograph beautifully.

The most important thing is that you feel good in what you’re wearing. When you're comfortable and connected to your look, the confidence naturally follows, and that’s where the magic happens.

Where to Shop

  • Target (seriously - they have the cutest stuff lately!)
  • SavageXFenty
  • Thistle and Spire
  • Honey Birdette
  • Victoria's Secret
  • Bluebella

What to Buy

  • Bra/Bralette and. Panty Sets
  • Teddies/Bodysuits
  • Corsets/Bustiers
  • Slips
  • Garters/Stockings
  • Fishnets
  • White Tshirt or Tank Top (Cropped is fun!) for wet sets
  • Oversized Ts (could even be your significant other's)
  • Cozy sweaters and socks over a bra/panty set
  • Nothing - you can choose to pose with a sheet or wear nothing at all!

What Colors to Wear?

  • Neutrals
  • Jewel tones
  • Pastels

These colors tend to photograph especially well.

That said, the best choice is always the one you feel most confident in. If bold colors, neons, or vibrant patterns are part of your style, you’re welcome to bring them. Just keep in mind that bright tones and busy prints can appear more intense in-camera, so we’ll style them thoughtfully to make sure the focus stays on you.

Confidence is the most important thing you can wear — everything else is just the icing.
