Newborn Session Guide

The first days with a new baby move slowly and quickly all at once.
Newborn sessions are designed to gently preserve this season: the quiet moments, the small details, and the feeling of bringing your baby home.
My approach is natural, relaxed, and baby-led. Rather than heavily posed studio portraits, these sessions focus on real connection and the beauty of everyday moments.
When to Schedule
The ideal time for newborn photographs is within the first two weeks after birth, when babies are typically sleepiest and happiest to be curled up in your arms.
Because babies arrive on their own timelines, sessions are scheduled once your baby arrives.
When booking, your due date reserves a spot on my calendar.
After your baby is born, simply reach out and we will choose a session date that works for your family.
Most sessions take place when baby is 5–14 days old, but beautiful images can be created at any stage.

What a Session Looks Like

Newborn sessions are intentionally slow and flexible.
There is plenty of time for feeding, changing, and soothing your baby. Nothing is rushed.
During the session, we may photograph:
• Baby alone
• Baby with parents
• Baby with siblings
• Quiet family moments together
• Small details — hands, feet, eyelashes, the way they fit in your arms
Sessions typically last about 60–90 minutes, depending on baby’s needs.

What to Wear
Soft, neutral clothing photographs beautifully and keeps the focus on connection.
Suggestions for parents:
• Cream, beige, soft gray, muted earth tones
• Simple textures (linen, cotton, knits)
• Avoid large logos or bold patterns
For baby:
• A simple onesie or neutral swaddle
• Diaper with swaddle wrap
• A favorite blanket
Bare skin and simple wraps often photograph most beautifully.
I supply a selection of swaddles, so don't feel like you need to prepare any outfits for baby.

Preparing for Your Session
A few small preparations can make the session smoother:
• Feed baby shortly before the session begins
• Open window blinds to allow natural light in
• Warm rooms help newborns stay comfortable and sleepy
• Have a pacifier nearby (even if baby rarely uses one)
Beyond that — relax. Your baby will guide the pace.
Siblings & Family Photos
If older siblings are participating, we usually begin with family and sibling images first so younger children can return to playing afterward.
Short breaks are completely normal, and we keep things relaxed and playful.
Your Gallery
After your session, your images are carefully edited and delivered through a private online gallery.
You can expect:
• 35+ edited images
• High-resolution downloads
• The ability to order prints and albums
Galleries are typically delivered within 2–3 weeks.
